Brazilian Blowout Zero

Over lunch earlier this week, I told my mother and my aunt that I was going to get a Brazilian Blowout Zero this weekend. There was stunned silence for a moment, and then my mother leaned forward and asked in an almost whisper, "A Brazilian is pretty extreme. What do they do to make it a blowout zero??"

It's a good thing I wasn't taking a sip of my drink when she asked or it's highly probably that I would have choked on my Diet Coke.

So, for those not in the know, a "Brazilian" generally refers to a wax in which nearly all of the hair "down there" is removed. Ouch, right? But thanks to a new beauty trend, it also refers to a hair treatment for the hair on your head.

I have naturally curly hair, and I was incredibly intrigued by the idea of a Brazilian Blowout, in which a solution is applied to the hair to form a protein layer around the hair shaft and smooth the hair cuticle. Frizz is eliminated for up to 3 months. A few of my friends had the Blowout done, and without exception, they all raved about it. I will also admit to having some envy over how smooth, shiny and healthy their hair looked. I was especially swayed by the results my friend Brandy had with the procedure - her hair is even curlier than mine, and thanks to the Blowout, she had gorgeous soft curls that were looser than they had been before. I was trying to embrace my natural curl though, and I had some concerns about chemicals in the product, so I opted against having a Blowout of my own.

Then my friend Alli told me about the Brazilian Blowout Zero, which supposedly offers the same benefits of the original Blowout but without releasing any formaldehyde. How perfect is that? So I am headed over to SalonMar to get my own Blowout Zero this weekend. I am looking forward to having shiny, sleek, frizz-free waves and curls without hours of blow-drying or flat-ironing. Check back for before and after pictures this weekend!

You silly girl. I can't believe that people still fall for all the hype. Your magical "protein layer around the hair shaft" is nothing more than a large concentration of formaldehyde heated to 450 degrees. There is nothing "protein" about it. And as for "ZERO", check the ingredients. It is nothing less than a Sodium Hydroxide Relaxer. Do a little research, all the information is available on-line and can easily be verified. Don't believe me? Call the Governor of California, Jerry Brown's office at (510)-622-2270 and ask for the Deputy Attorney General, Claudia Polsky.

So, did you get it done? I have an appointment for the Brazilian Blowout treatment Saturday...I'm trying to figure out how well this treatment works. Do you have before/after pics? Pics from now, a couple weeks later?
